Lost Dentures in Hospital Liverpool β Replacement Dentures for Inpatients
Lost dentures during a hospital stay? We take new impressions at the bedside and arrange replacement dentures without the patient leaving the ward.
Replacing Lost Dentures in Hospital
It happens more often than you’d think. Dentures get lost during hospital admissions β wrapped in napkins at mealtimes, misplaced during ward moves, or simply disappearing. For the patient, being without dentures is distressing. They can’t eat properly, they may struggle to speak, and it affects their confidence and dignity at an already difficult time.
Need a Home Visit?
Liverpool & Merseyside. We come to homes, care homes and hospitals.
Our hospital dentist service in Liverpool solves this problem. Our GDC registered clinician visits the ward and manages the entire replacement process at the patient’s bedside β from first impressions through to final fitting. No need for the patient to leave the ward at any stage.
We provide this service at hospitals across Liverpool, Wirral, and the wider Merseyside area.
The Process
1. First Visit β Impressions
Our clinician visits the bedside and takes precise impressions of the patient’s mouth. These are sent to our dental laboratory to begin crafting the new dentures.
2. Second Visit β Bite Registration
We return to measure and record the patient’s bite. This ensures the upper and lower dentures will meet correctly for comfortable eating and speaking.
3. Third Visit β Try-In
We bring a wax try-in so the patient can check the fit, appearance, and bite before the final dentures are made. Any adjustments are noted at this stage.
4. Final Visit β Fitting
The finished dentures are fitted at the bedside. We check everything is comfortable, the bite is correct, and adjust as needed.
If the patient is discharged before the dentures are ready, we can complete the remaining visits at their home or care home through our home visit denture service.
Why Replacing Lost Dentures Quickly Matters
Without dentures, hospital patients often switch to a soft or liquid diet, which can lead to nutritional deficiencies and slower recovery. It also affects their ability to communicate clearly and can cause embarrassment and withdrawal β none of which helps the healing process.
The sooner replacement dentures are arranged, the sooner the patient can eat normally, speak comfortably, and feel more like themselves.

Prevention Tip for Ward Staff
Dentures are most commonly lost at mealtimes. Encourage patients to place dentures in a clearly labelled denture pot rather than on food trays or wrapped in tissues. This simple step can prevent a lot of distress and expense.
